Frequently Asked Questions

Q. What courses do you offer?

We offer various robotics and coding courses. In robotics, we are providing the following:

  • Robotics with VEX

  • Robotics with Lego Wedo

  • Robotics with Lego Spike

In coding, we are offering the following:

  • Animation and game design using Scratch from MIT

  • Coding using Lego WeDo, Lego Spike and VEX

  • Learning to code in Python

We are continuously surveying the market to leverage the latest and greatest in the industry to launch your child to a better future, by continuously updating our courses.

Q. What benefits do the courses provide?

Our courses are designed to ignite interest in robotics and coding in your child. We use our courses to take your child on a learning journey teaching them skills that range from basics to intermediate to advanced programming and logical concepts. Children are introduced to various concepts of programming such as if-then-else branching logic, repeat loops, arrays, variables etc. We also integrate science and engineering in robotics showing practical application of concepts such as gravity, pulleys, gears, laws of motion etc. through the projects that they build in the classes.

In addition to teaching technical science and engineering skills, we focus on teaching children good citizenship: we teach children to follow directions, work effectively in teams, present their work confidently and be responsible citizens by being respectful to each other, and to our environment.

Q. How do you ensure my child stays interested in the course?

Most children are enamored with technology and electronic devices. Children are also naturally curious and want to express their creativity, if given the right space and environment.

As a result, we find children find joy in our courses in which they build and program creations that blow everyone away including themselves!

In addition, we plan variety in our courses for our continuing students. We swap our robotics and coding courses and mix the courses we offer within robotics and coding to keep things fresh and interesting for your child.

Having said that, we understand that each child is unique, and on rare occasions, we may find that our courses are not piquing the interest of your child. In those rare instances, we will be happy to discuss and find the best next step for your child.

Q. Why are classes on a monthly subscription?

Learning robotics and coding is similar to learning any new subject like math or science or a new hobby or sport. Your child will reap maximum benefits by staying in our programs for a period of time. Our curriculum is designed to take your child on a learning journey that will progressively challenge him or her by increasingly complex projects and concepts. The longer your child stays with us, the more adept he or she will be in robotics and coding.

Our tuition typically includes a registration fee, and a tuition for the entire school year as our classes continue throughout the school year. The payment offers a monthly subscription as described on the registration page and in the email confirmation you will receive when you register. This ensures a uniform payment each month that does not fluctuate with the number of classes for that particular month.

Q. The class mentions K-5? How is that handled?

We create groups of 2-3 children based on age, grade and prior experience, and the curriculum journey is designed to challenge each group with projects that are appropriate to their level. As children stay with us, they will work on projects with increasing complexity and continue their learning of science and engineering concepts and coding skills.

Q. My child is on waitlist. What can I expect?

To keep class sizes manageable we limit class sizes in each school. We are limited in our abilities to accomodate your child once a class is on waitlist. If a spot opens up, and we are able to add your child while making sure we can bring him/her up to speed, we will be in touch.

Q. Can I cancel the classes?

Yes, there is no long term commitment. We require a 30 day email notice to info@crestcomputing.com and may require a telephonic consultation for feedback.

Q. Who will be teaching my child?

As an education provider to children, our highest priority is to find great teachers and train them to help your child grow. We value attitude over experience, and look for positive, energetic, and enthusiastic people who can serve as role models for your children.

Our teachers undergo a thorough background check including fingerprinting with the Colorado Bureau of Investigation for a criminal history check to ensure they are cleared for childcare education. Our teachers have a background in science, engineering, or mathematics, and undergo rigorous training in childcare laws and regulations. Our teachers are adept in classroom management and are trained to create a nurturing environment for your child to learn and grow.

Q. What is the ratio of teacher to children?

We follow all local rules and regulations for teacher to children ratio. From our experience, it is not so much about ratios, as about having competent and trained teachers that know how to manage a class and all the unique situations that can come up in a classroom setting. Our focus in on managing the classrooms so that each child gets the attention that is needed for him or her to learn and grow.

Q. Who will my child be working with?

Our courses are age appropriate for 5-14 year old children, and are offered to 1st grade through 8th grade children. For our courses that we create small groups for, we create groups of 2-3 children of similar grade and level who get to work on projects together. In some instances, where children have prior experience or are showing a high aptitude for robotics and coding, we may place them up a level.

Q. Can I request my child be placed in a different group?

While there are situations where a group change may be warranted, our preference is to teach children to work in the group they are placed in. In addition to teaching technical skills, we want to teach children how to work together effectively in a group. As we all know, we do not always have a choice about who we get to work with in the real world. We want to prepare your child for the real world by teaching them how to work in teams that consist of children with different personality types.

Q. How will I know what my child is learning?

We share pictures and videos of your child working on projects. We also provide periodic communications that outline our learning plans and provide periodic opportunities for parent teacher conferences to discuss your child’s growth.
